In an exciting turn of events, the Three Star Football Club has secured a place in the semi-finals of the Rara Pokhara Gold Cup Football Tournament, which features both national and international club teams. The journey to the semi-finals was solidified after Three Star Machhindra Football Club was defeated in a penalty shootout during the quarterfinals held at the Pokhara Rangashala.
The intense match saw both teams unable to score during regular play and extra time, leading to the decision being made through a penalty shootout. In a tense moment, Three Star emerged victorious with a 4-2 score in the penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Sarin successfully blocking Machhindra’s Aditya Shakya’s strike, sealing their spot in the final four.
For Three Star, players like Dipesh Ghale, Fode Fofana, Viraj Maharjan, and Laxman Ruchal were instrumental in securing goals during the match. On the other hand, Machhindra had to bid farewell to the tournament after defeating departmental team APF Club in the earlier rounds, while Three Star advanced directly to the quarterfinals.
Looking ahead, the upcoming match under the tournament will feature a clash between Church Boys United and departmental team Nepal Army Club on Monday, organized by Sahara Club Pokhara under the leadership of Keshavraj Baral. The victorious team of the competition, set to conclude by Falgun 3, will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 12 lakhs, while the runner-up will receive Rs. 5 lakhs along with a shield, medals, and certificates.
Furthermore, the tournament will also recognize the best players by awarding them with scooters. Additionally, individual accolades in various categories such as top goal scorer, outstanding defender, goalkeeper, midfielder, striker, and coach will receive cash prizes of up to Rs. 25,000 along with trophies.
