During a recent meeting of democratic parties, Baburam Bhattarai, the chairperson of Nepal’s Samajwadi Party (New Force), suggested to Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli to take legal action against former King Gyanendra in accordance with the law. This recommendation was made during the gathering of democratic parties held at Singhadurbar, where Prime Minister Oli had called for discussions.

Bhattarai expressed his concerns regarding Gyanendra’s actions, stating that his recent activities have crossed boundaries and that it is now necessary for the parties to come to a consensus and take constitutional and legal actions against him. In a conversation with journalists at Singhadurbar, Bhattarai emphasized the need to hold Gyanendra accountable for his actions, which he believes have incited unrest in the country.

Bhattarai’s request stems from the belief that Gyanendra’s provocative actions, carried out in an organized manner, have led to disorder and therefore must be addressed through legal means. He also proposed a unifying approach among the democratic parties to safeguard democracy and prevent any destabilization caused by the recent shift in political dynamics.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, views Bhattarai’s stance as a significant step towards maintaining law and order in Nepal. He commends Bhattarai for advocating for legal actions against Gyanendra and believes that such measures are crucial for upholding the principles of democracy in the country.
