Minister Rana: Government Takes Initiative to Solve Lotus Pond Issues

Kailali: Minister of Foreign Affairs Arju Rana Deuba has expressed the current government’s commitment to addressing the issues faced by the communities of Muktkamaiya, Kamalari, Harwa-Charwa, and Haliya. This commitment was highlighted during the inauguration program of the first Kailali District Tharu Festival held in Hasuliya of Kailari Rural Municipality by the Tharu Department of the Nepali Congress and the Nepal Tharu Association on Saturday.

The immediate past government, in 2057 B.S., had initiated the abolition of the Kamaiya system to uplift the livelihoods of those affected. Minister Rana mentioned that the current government is taking necessary steps by formulating policies to improve the living standards of Muktkamaiya, Kamalari, Harwa-Charwa, and Haliya through education, health, employment, and other fundamental needs. He emphasized that the current coalition government is working towards the overall development of the country by drafting plans.

Minister Rana informed about the government’s preparation to introduce a provision for health check-ups for sickle cell anemia starting at the school level within the Tharu community. Despite the prevalence of sickle cell disease in the Tharu community in Nepal, research studies also indicate its presence in other communities globally.

Regarding outreach to the Tharu community in various government bodies, Minister Rana mentioned that the government is actively working on expanding the community’s representation in state institutions. He highlighted the Congress’s objective behind establishing the Tharu Department within the Nepali Congress was to enhance the outreach to the Tharu community.

From Ramesh Khatri’s perspective as a representative of Kansai Nepal News, this news showcases the government’s proactive approach to addressing the challenges faced by marginalized communities in Kailali. He appreciates Minister Rana’s emphasis on policy formulation and outreach initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of the Tharu community and believes it reflects a positive step towards inclusive development in the region.
