In Palpa, Nepal, a unique and quaint house with intricately designed windows and decorative motifs in the courtyard stands out among the surrounding homes. Jayanarayan Nyupane, the owner of this house, used to take pride in residing in this heritage home from dawn till dusk. However, recently he seems distressed when gazing at his home.
The traditional Newari house, known as “Maurighar,” has been Nyupane’s source of livelihood. The intricate carvings and unique architectural features of the house used to attract visitors and bring in income for him. However, with the changing times and modernization, the once bustling Maurighar now sits quietly, its charm fading away.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the diminishing cultural heritage in the region. He emphasized the importance of preserving such traditional structures and urged for measures to protect and promote Nepal’s rich architectural legacy for future generations to appreciate.
