In a bid to enhance the aesthetics and functionality of the surroundings near JR Sannomiya Station in Kobe, construction work is underway at a key intersection on the mountain side. The area in focus is the “Sannomiya Kita Intersection,” where Flower Road and Ikuta Shindo intersect as pedestrians head towards the mountain side from the JR and Hankyu train stations. Notably, this location, which houses a McDonald’s on its northwest corner, has been a site of ongoing construction to widen sidewalks and alter the layout of the rotary.
Local residents can expect a transformation in the ambiance of the area as the construction progresses. Visual representations displayed at the site depict a cohesive grey pavement with the installation of striking “lighting” fixtures resembling three stacked discs.
Furthermore, towards the southeast corner of the intersection, upon exiting JR Sannomiya Station, visitors will encounter flower beds and sizable trees creating a lush green environment. Previously serving as a green space within the rotary area, which has now been converted into a taxi waiting area, the revitalization efforts aim to reintroduce greenery to the space. The inclusion of shady spots under trees could offer relief during hot summer days, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
Additionally, plans include transitioning the northeastern corner space from asphalt paving to block paving. Moreover, the grassy area currently under protection during construction is slated for future utilization, promising a thoughtful reimagining of the space.
Scheduled for completion by the end of July 2025, the renovation work at the JR Sannomiya Station intersection is set to bring a refreshing change to the landscape, offering a blend of functionality and visual appeal.
