The recent order from the High Court in Butwal to detain Ravi Lamichhane, the President of the National Independent Party (NIP), at his home has stirred controversy. The Butwal bench of the High Court issued the order to send Lamichhane into custody, and the police were seen arriving at his residence in Budhanilkantha to carry out the arrest.

Lamichhane is currently being held in detention at the District Police Office in Kathmandu and is expected to face charges tomorrow, Saturday. The arrest comes at a crucial time as NIP had planned to kick off a public rally in Chitwan tomorrow, where Lamichhane was scheduled to address important issues to the public.

In a separate legal case related to the Supreme Cooperative case in Butwal, the District Court of Rupandehi had demanded a bail amount of 1 crore. Lamichhane, who seemed puzzled by the order, was advised to present himself in court by a certain date to avoid further legal complications.

Opinion by Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News:
“The detention of Ravi Lamichhane has raised concerns about political motives behind the arrest. It is crucial for the legal system to ensure transparency and fairness in such cases to uphold the principles of justice and democracy.”
