According to Japan Times, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is worried because there are more cases of a rare but serious bacterial infection. In Tokyo alone, there have been 88 cases, and nationwide, there have been 517 cases reported.

This infection is called streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS), and it’s really serious. It’s sometimes called the “flesh-eating disease” because it can cause damage to muscles and tissues very quickly. The Tokyo government says that about 30% of people who get this infection can die from it, which is really high.

Because of these infections, even North Korea canceled a soccer match with Japan because they were worried about the disease spreading.

The Tokyo government wants people to be careful and watch out for symptoms like fever, rash, and severe pain. If someone has these symptoms, especially if they recently got hurt, they should see a doctor right away.

To stop the spread of this infection, it’s important for everyone to keep clean, wash their hands well, and cover any wounds properly. The government is also working hard to educate people about STSS and how to stay safe from it.

Everyone needs to work together to stop the spread of this dangerous infection and keep each other safe.
